There are few things better than sipping on a delicious caffeinated drink at a great local cafe. You love coffee. Coffee might even be your first language but do you know the Cafe Etiquette? This article is about teaching you everything you need to know to become the ultimate Cafe Etiquette Master so you can stand out as a pro every time you get your morning cup of joe. So without further ado, let’s get started.
Here Are The 15 Steps To Becoming The Ultimate Cafe Etiquette Master:
Make It Quick
When you are at the drive-thru, try to order an already-prepared item rather than a food item that has to be made right then, so you don’t hold up the line.
Don’t Use Drive-Thru For Big Orders
Order indoors for large orders like four drinks or more instead of using the drive-thru, so you don’t hold up the line.
What’s The Magic Word?
Be sure to say please and thank you. If you want to become a regular, get to know the baristas. Learn their name and strike up a conversation. People provide better service when they have something interesting to talk about.
Your barista understands that you and the other customers are in a rush, but sometimes it takes a moment to make your incredibly tasty cup of java. Remember, patience is the key!
Here’s A Tip
If you order food and a drink, tip at least $1. If your server clears your table and brings your food to it, then it’s polite to tip 15% to 20%.
If you are planning a gathering with friends, call the cafe ahead of time and ask for their slower daytime hours, so you’ll have room for everyone!
Be A Hero
Are you and your friends using laptops to study or surf the web? Bring a surge prtector with multiple plugs so others can plug their devices into it.
Always Bring Earbuds/Headphones
Generally, no one wants to hear any audio that the cafe is not playing. So if you are planning on listening to music or watching videos, bring a handy pair of earbuds/headphones.
If you need to make a phone call, either keep it short or step outside.
Some Orders Take Longer Than Others
The bigger the order, the longer it takes to prepare. If someone gets their drinks before you, it’s probably because they made a smaller order than you or their order is assigned to a different barista. Shrug it off; your order will come sooner than you know it.
Let Someone Behind You Go First
If YOU are having trouble deciding what to order, that’s alright; it’s okay to be particular about your food & drinks. We encourage you simply step out of the line and allow the person behind you to go first while you decide.
If you’re planning on staying at the cafe for an extended amount of time, be sure to order something every few hours and tip at least $2-$3.
Don’t Be Messy
Keeping your table clean and cleaning up before you leave not only impresses the baristas, but also everyone around you.
Most cafes are a place for people to interact and socialize. Take a leisurely break from your laptop every now and then. Who knows, maybe you’ll make a new friend.
